Happy Labor Day, everyone! Or happy belated Labor Day to those reading this article after September 4th. In honor of the holiday that was founded to show appreciation to all the workers in America, I wanted to write on the history of the holiday while taking time to thank all of the employee-owners in Apex for their hard work.
This holiday goes all the way back to the late 1800s. At the time, it was not too uncommon for workers to work 12-hour days six days a week. According to this article, “Calls for shorter workdays and better conditions came from worker strikes and rallies in the decades after the Civil War. On Sept. 5, 1882, union leaders in New York City organized what’s thought to be the first Labor Day parade.” A few years later, Oregon became the first state to pass a law recognizing Labor Day in 1887. This article points to our great state of Colorado being one of four more states to join in 1887. It wasn’t until 1894 that congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year the holiday of Labor Day. It was to celebrate all the workers that helped make America what it is today.
We want to honor the men and women that have made and continue to make America the land of prosperity. We especially want to thank all of those who work the dirty and tough jobs that provide us with our basic needs here in the U.S. Of course, this includes all the people here at Apex Plumbing who work tirelessly to help keep our water coming into our homes and the sewage going out.
