We live in an amazing country, don’t we? Your first thought might be: it doesn’t always feel that way. I know how easy it is to focus on the negative – the divisions, the hate, the politics that seem to seep into our everyday lives. News outlets and social media can make us feel frustrated, fearful, and even hopeless about the future. However, at the end of the day, we have so many reasons to be grateful that we live in America. Through our #GoodNewsMonday posts on our Facebook page, we try to shine a light on the truly good things that happen all around us. Sometimes the greatest teacher of thankfulness is looking at what others don’t have that we often take for granted. A recent article from The Moscow Times stated more than 20% of Russian households do not have access to indoor plumbing. According to the article, a 2012 estimate citing official data reported around 35 million Russian households came only equipped with outhouses. That’s roughly a quarter of their population! In rural Russia, nearly two-thirds have no access to indoor toilets. Many of our rural homes had indoor plumbing back in the 1930s. Another astonishing figure comes from an Indian publication. A 2017 report from Wateraidindia.in stated there are 663 million people around the world without access to clean water. In India alone, there are 63.4 million people living in rural areas without access to clean water. Here in the Mile High City, Denver Water performs nearly 70,000 water tests a year to ensure we have safe drinking water. Some rural areas in America rely on well water, but our advanced filtrations systems that you can buy at Walmart mean very few have limited access to clean drinking water and often well water is still safe to drink. We may live in crazy times, but there is still so much to be grateful for that is easy to take for granted.
We at Apex specialize in underground plumbing installation and repair. Our job reminds us daily how blessed we are to have a well-functioning underground sewer system and running water lines in Denver. When things don’t function well due to a break or similar issue or when someone someone needs to replace their lead water line, we understand what a struggle those can be. That’s why we work hard to get people taken care of as quickly as possible. To better understand the process, please visit our ‘What to Expect’ page. It’s unfortunate when problems arise, but at the end of the day, something as simple as access to restrooms and clean running water should make us feel so grateful for what we’ve been given knowing so many in the world do not share the same level of blessings.
